The Ghost Of Bill Hicks

Righteous howls at stupidity and mediocrity

Music n such: What are you listening to?

So right now I'm listening to Josef K's Young And Stupid album after being turned on to them by my ever-growing love for Franz Ferdinand and I'm digging the hell out of it. I'm also listening to some of Bowie's supposed "lesser" works, like Diamond Dogs, Pin-Ups, and Lodger, so I'm beginning to get a little art-rocked out, and I was wondering what anyone out there reading would suggest I check out. Maybe later I'll post a top ten list or something like that.

Added you to my favorites! Keep up the good fight, and damn, but I love Bill Hicks! A shame he's already shuffled of his mortal coil...

GOBH- Hate to admit it, but this friggin song has been bouncing around in my head for the last two days... I know, I know. It's not my fault! I blame the chemicals.

DO YA WANNA HOLD ME?

Children, I wanna warn ya, 'cos I've been to California
Where Mickey Mouse is such a demon, where Mickey Mouse is as big as a house

Life is wasted on illusion, Tom and Jerry's no solution
Evil games for cartoon demons, Pinocchio's the real boy, look around

And I cry all night, do you wanna hold me, hold me tight
Do you wanna hold me, oh yeah, do you wanna hold me, hold me there

Children, you got to hear me, you've just got to understand me
Love and death ain't no physical thing
'Cos Mickey Mouse he don't wanna know

And I cry all night, do you wanna hold me, hold me tight
Do you wanna hold me, oh yeah, do you wanna hold me, hold me there
Do you wanna

And I cry all night, do you wanna hold me, hold me tight
Do you wanna hold me, oh yeah, do you wanna hold me, hold me there

And I cry all night, there ain't no more confusion in the night
There's someone there to tell me what is right
Do you wanna hold me, hold me tight

And I cry all night, there's only one solution to this life
Is someone there to tell me what it's like
Do you wanna hold me, oh yeah, do you wanna hold me, oh yeah
Do you wanna hold me, hold me there

Do you wanna hold me, oh yeah... (repeats out)

--Bow Wow Wow

By the way, there are NO "lesser" Bowie albums... you just have to be in a different place to hear them.

Hey, just read your comment on pandagon, so I had to check you out. I've loved your comments there and on eschaton. Wondered where you'd been lately. Good luck on the job hunt. Hopefully Kerry/Edwards can revive our optimism and kickstart this nation again.

Also big Hicks fan (Bill AND Dan). My favorite music is Blues and Roots Rock, but my collection is full of stuff from various genres. All depends on my mood.

for blues, lately: The Smokin' Joe Kubek Band, love everything I've bought so far (6 albums). Great Texas blues, lots of slide and crisp pickin'. Singer B'nois King has vocals as smooth as glass and plays a great rhythm and lead guitar, too.

for roots, perennially: THE BEAT FARMERS rule! and their pal Mojo Nixon's album Sock Ray Blue was fantastic, great production, tight band, rocking tunes and political rants. I love all their stuff and have everything I can get my hands on by both of them and their members solo efforts.

and for pure pop pleasure: The Reivers (every album a joy, great male/female harmonies and catchy music. And then there's Scruffy the Cat (local New England band, hard to find their few albums, but the pop craftsmanship is superb.) Country tinged rock, perfect 3 minute ditties that will swirl in your head for days.

Oh, and I just discovered Franz Ferdinand, too. Sound great so far, looking forward to further listening.

Well, enough for now.
Keep ranting!
